Rosemary Imes has been attracted to art since early in
life. She formalized this interest by pursuing studies at Otis Art
Institute and Parsons School of Design, and by taking every art related
class at Pasadena City College. She has been inspired by colorist
Victor LaFica and others while attending workshops to stimulate her artistic
spirit. Teaching art at Maranatha High School in Arcadia is also part
of her rich art background.
Having a broad scope of interest in media, Rosemary has
tried many things: stained glass, leatherwork, ceramics, and graphic art.
This has led to her current passion - portraits in pastel and Prismacolor
pencil. She enjoys expressing the human face and refers to recent work
as her "old lady series." These portraits feature women of a certain
age wearing hats.
Rosemary and her husband Jerry now reside in LaVerne,
but have also lived in Pasadena. They recently returned to Southern
California after spending the past twelve years in Ohio.
Besides being a member of the Associated Artists of the
Inland Empire, Rosemary is a member of groups in Ironton, Ohio, West
Virginia, and was voted "Graphic Artist of the Year" by Kentucky Creative
Arts in Ashland. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries
as well as private collections.
