Jim McClure was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
His art interests began in earnest in the 1970’s when he started a greeting
card company called “Happy Time Cards.” After running the company for five
years, he sold it to TV comic Cliff Arket.
For the following several years, Jim was involved in
the operation of a design company which specialized in commercial and
industrial office interiors. It was there that he developed his preference
for large scale architectural elements constructing, painting, and
installing planters, murals, and collages to enhance and harmonize with the
design elements of the building.
His unique construction of three-dimensional
architectural works uses mixed media consisting of pen and ink, #2 pencil,
watercolors, acrylics, and construction board. They may be hung or can
stand alone. Many, such as the Mediterranean walled city and an English
hunting lodge, create a fanciful environment of their own. They also
contain hidden practical features such as drawers.
A further influence to Jim’s current work comes from
living in Paris, France. Jim studied at several studios there. He also
formerly resided in Dallas and in Houston.
Several galleries, including the Galleria Galleries in
Houston and Jon Cann’s Gallery in Dallas have featured showings of his
work. Jim’s artwork can be special ordered from designers and architects.
