ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I have been attending Chaffey College for three years.  I plan on attending Pitzer College in Claremont in the Fall of 2005.  My goals are to become a high school art teacher and teach within the community where I grew up.  It is important for me to give back the knowledge and passion I have for the arts to my students.

Right now, I am a full time student and mother.  I have three children who look up to me and depend on me at the same time.  I attend college to set an example for my children.  To show them that anyone can continue to grow and achieve personal and educational goals.

I am currently involved in the student Invitational 2005.  I am passionate about all of the arts, but ceramics is my true love.  I think about it when I wake up and it's the last thing on my mind before I sleep.  The surface of the clay can be smooth and rough at the same time.  Anything can be made out of clay.  Cris Gonzalez has been a huge influence to me; when I am having difficulties with a project or a glaze, he tells me to just do it and eventually I'll figure it out.  That's his way of pushing my brain to think of other ways to calculate glaze formulas or be more articulate when I build sculpture or forms.

Working in the ceramic studio is a blessing to me.  I find myself working harder than I ever have before in any medium.  I love being an artist and I can't wait to teach my love and passion to others!
