CHRISTY
BRUCE
WATERCOLOR
Christy Bruce of Canyon Lake received her BA, majoring in
art and art history, and a California teaching credential from California
State University San Bernardino. Ms. Bruce taught fifth grade and
acted as the art coordinator for the Alta Loma School District for
twenty-seven years before recently retiring.
Christy was exposed to art at an early age. Her father
designed and built houses; therefore, she saw blue prints and elevation
drawings every day. Also, her maternal grandmother was an artist.
With this family inspiration, it is understood why Christy would be drawn to
arts. She is proficient in both oils and watercolor, but, for the last
twelve years, she has worked in watercolor. She studied fine
art under various art professors, such as Andre Tolstoy-Mahonney (oils),
Martha Underwood, Marilyn Evans, Fealing Lin, and Tom Fong (watercolor).
A most versatile artist, Christy enjoys painting a wide variety of subjects in both
oil and in watercolor, preferring landscapes, still lifes, and
flowers. She has embarked on a journey into impressionistic
naturalism. Interpreting anew nature and the structural works around
us, she finds each painting to be an adventure with surprising and
mysterious results. She approaches her paintings with a passion for
play and visual discovery. She invites her viewers to share in that
discovery and to participate further by finding their own truths.
She uses her full legal name, Christalee, to sign her work.
Her work has won numerous awards and can be found in many private
collections as well as in the Gibson Center in Upland and the Bella Gallery
in Lake Elsinore. Artist Christy Bruce currently belongs to these art associations:
Associated Artists of the Inland Empire, Pomona Valley Art Association, the
Fallbrook Art Association, and
the Canyon Lake Art Association.
