Sylvia Megerdichian

MIXED MEDIA

http://www.artboxworkshops.com

Sylvia Megerdichian has attained a reputation for her exciting, abstract, and imaginative watermedia paintings. Over the years, she has developed a special technique in which she combines and layers conventional watercolor with Caran d’Ache watercolor pencils or collage. This unique style gives her paintings a vibrant and glowing quality. Sylvia always commences a painting with line, color, texture, and shape; however, she allows her paintings to unfold with some randomness, taking advantage of the unexpected. Every painting becomes a new experiment of brilliant ideas and color.

Sylvia has won numerous first place and best of show awards, including the Grumbacher award, from a variety of local and regional art shows. For her artistic endeavors, she has received the city of Upland Certificate of Recognition and the city of Pomona Certificate of Appreciation. Sylvia is certified to teach Dr. Betty Edwards’ unique method, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. She has taught many drawing classes utilizing Dr. Edwards’ technique and her own. In addition, she has demonstrated painting and drawing for the Verdugo Hills Art Association, the Beverly Hills Art Association, and others. In 1999, Sylvia’s works were published in Watermedia Focus magazine. In 1993, Sylvia established Art Box Studio in Upland, California, where she exhibits her art, teaches, and hosts a variety of workshops. Her workshops have included nationally known artists, such as Robert E. Wood, Carol Barnes, Don O’Neil, Henry Fukuhara, Martha Saudek, Gerald Brommer, Don Andrews, Mary Wilbanks, Virginia Cobb, Barbara Nechis, Judi Betts, Steven Quiller, George James, Katherine Chang Liu, Milford Zornes, Skip Lawrence and Christopher Schink.

Sylvia Megerdichian’s paintings are in private and corporate collections. Her work is continually exhibited at Artist Trait Gallery in Claremont, California.
