JANUARY DEMONSTRATOR ARTIST

NANCY KASTEN

Visit Nancy Kasten on the web.

Nancy Kasten strives to capture the emotion of her subject in her paintings.  She shares, "Nothing projects that emotion more than people and other living things.  A few well placed strokes can say far more than a thoroughly detailed rendering."

A native Californian, Nancy knew she wanted to be an artist from the time she could pick up a pencil.  Having won first place in a national contest by the time she was twelve, she continues to take awards, including Best of Show honors and the Grumbacher award for the best use of color.

Pursuing art at Chaffey College, she has also studied privately with many masters of fine art.  She has shown her paintings in one woman shows and group shows throughout Southern California.  Currently, she teaches art and conducts art workshops and demonstrations.

Nancy's paintings are in many private collections throughout the United States and Canada.  Her award winning painting of horses, entitled "All Weather Friends," is available in limited edition print through the various galleries that represent her.

PERSONAL STATEMENT:

I have been making art and taking art classes at Chaffey College since I graduated from A. B. Miller High School in 1998.  What started as a plan to transfer to a four year college in two years stretched out to four years at Chaffey College.

My art classes quickly outweighed my general studies as my interest in art making grew.  I found my passion was art.  I fell in love with the rush you get from producing art.  My love for art includes those late nights spent preparing for a gallery opening the next morning or a project deadline.

I am hooked on art making so badly that I'm going to play with the "big kids" when I transfer out of Chaffey College at the end of the spring semester.  I've been accepted as a third year student at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in the school of art and will begin classes in the Fall of 2003.  I will be working towards my BFA and more importantly, I'll be working to excel to the top of my classes.

My objective is to share my love for the arts with others through teaching and education.  I know I want a career in the arts because it is somewhere I can learn, play, and grow.  The possibilities are infinite and ever-changing in the field and that is why I want to jump in.  I want to create, educate, and be part of the next generation of artists.
